Guest martinkerr Posted June 20, 2003 Report Posted June 20, 2003 Hi, is my 95 dohc 2.0 petrol fitted with a chain, I suspect it is as it is inside the rocker cover but would like to make sure Me and trading standards are busy fighting to get my money back so I can buy another gal without the shed load of problems......... to be continued! I suggest everybody reading this takes a look at trading standards site as you will learn a lot of laws are on your side when it comes to buying stuff Martin Quote
Guest martinkerr Posted June 20, 2003 Report Posted June 20, 2003 Thanks, ended a long running debate between me and the mrs, I won :D :D :D Quote
Guest Hotscot Posted June 23, 2003 Report Posted June 23, 2003 Has the 2.0 DOHC got a cambelt like other fords, that needs replacing every 60,000 ? I assume your talking about the timing when you say it's got a chain ? Quote
Guest Hotscot Posted June 23, 2003 Report Posted June 23, 2003 Chain.....what? Is it a camshaft chain ? I got told the 2.0 is in fact a VW engine Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted June 23, 2003 Report Posted June 23, 2003 If you have a Galaxy, the 2.0 engine is a Ford unit. The VW and SEAT have a VW 2.0 litre engine. Galaxy 2.3 petrol is a Ford unit, first developed for the Granada/Scorpio by Cosworth. 2.8 litre and all TDI engines are VW units. Quote
Guest SA Intruder Posted June 23, 2003 Report Posted June 23, 2003 ****Camshaft**** drive chain. If you have a Ford 2.0 or 2.3 Litre petrol engine, it has chain driven camshafts. Both units are DOHC, derived from the old Granada/Sierra unit fitted from 1988 on. A bit of a dinosaur. The VW unit is belt driven in terms of Camshaft. Quote
Guest simon D Posted June 24, 2003 Report Posted June 24, 2003 Cam belt ,chain or gear train on the V6's ?I was under the impression its gear train . Quote
Guest SA Intruder Posted June 24, 2003 Report Posted June 24, 2003 Chains again. Lower and Upper too. Quote
Guest Scott Posted June 25, 2003 Report Posted June 25, 2003 If you have a Ford 2.0 or 2.3 Litre petrol engine, it has chain driven camshafts. Both units are DOHC, derived from the old Granada/Sierra unit fitted from 1988 on. A bit of a dinosaur.Interesting comment. The 2.0 unit is hard to get a recon replacement as it's the one all the racing boys choose to use, with mods of course, so they grab available units (personal experience when I blew my Scorpio unit ...)I understood the 2.3 was a completely new design - but this latter only from a Galaxy review I read prior to buying mine. ~ Scott Quote
Guest SA Intruder Posted June 25, 2003 Report Posted June 25, 2003 As far as memory serves, the 2.3L is derived from the 2.0L The primary difference in the block is the balancer shaft. Perhaps this power sapping feature explains the adoption of the 2.0L by modders. There are other differences, but they are definitely kin. Surprised they didn't use the Zetec E in the 2.0L???? The 2.0L DOHC has poor torque - hence the gearing. Quote
Guest martinkerr Posted June 25, 2003 Report Posted June 25, 2003 I agree about the torque, my 2.0 is lacking somewhat in the ooomph section Used to have a 2.0 dohc twin carb sierra, now that had ooomph for a 2.0 Nowt compared to the XR4x4i though !!! Quote
Guest andley Posted August 12, 2003 Report Posted August 12, 2003 greetings! definately chain drive on the cam shaft. needs re-newal at @100k (thats the ford reccomendation). looking at about 300-350 for chain and tensioners..so i was told, plus fitting and vat OUCH .only 15 k 'til mine needs doing! Ivor_E_Tower Posted August 13, 2003 Report Posted August 13, 2003 That's not as big an ouch as from us belt-drive camshaft owners! We have to look at Quote
Guest Ford Prefect Posted September 9, 2003 Report Posted September 9, 2003 Does any one know where I can find info on when the "Cam Chain" on a 2.8 v6 Galaxy needs changing. My "v6" has had a chain go @ only 86k !!!!! A local Ford dealer wants Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted September 10, 2003 Report Posted September 10, 2003 Think you're being naive. Garages/Ford will try to wriggle - have all services been carried out on schedule by authorised dealers, has oil level been checked regularly etc etc.Ah well, sometimes these things fail early so you're just unlucky (and we won't help you financially).Do you have access to any free legal advice (eg through insurance co etc)?Sorry to hear of your problem, and good luck. May be worth reporting this to (e.g.) What Car magazine if you have all evidence to support looking after the engine. Quote
